ELECTRONICS & ENGINEERING PTE LTD BOOSTS NEW EDGE TECHNOLOGY AT THE STAR PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE (THE STAR PAC)

The STAR Performing Arts Centre (The STAR PAC), located at the heart of Vista Exchange, Buona Vista, is a state-of-the-art complex featuring a collection of performance and event spaces, boasting a 5,000-seat theatre, a multi-purpose hall, an outdoor amphitheater, rooftop reception area and supporting spaces of various sizes. This unique venue complete with stunning architecture and design provides a suite of performance spaces for a wide range of events and is the largest performance theatre equipped with broadcasting facilities in Singapore. The Star PAC is an ideal venue for amplified performances including pop concerts, large-scale musicals, theatres, dances, seminars and meetings.

“The team of people working on this project, with their dedication and ideas together with the new edge technology that has been adapted are the main factors that will make all the difference for this world class venue. We at E&E are honored to be part of the team that has contributed to the completion and success of The Star PAC, said Ronald Goh, Managing Director for Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd.

Together with the installation of the 40 channels of Axient™ wireless systems, Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd also supplied the first ever 24 channels of Shure UHF R+ ® wireless, 28 channels of the new Shure PSM® 1000 as well as 12 channels of the Shure PSM® 900 personal monitor systems. 20 Channels of ULX-D® wireless microphones complete the requirements. Bringing this to a grand total of 124 channels.

“As a multiple venue performing arts center, they needed a system that was scalable and yet robust and reliable and able to manage the complex RF environment,” said Eric Ong, Shure Product Manager, Singapore. Shure Axient is designed to ensure uninterrupted wireless transmission through a suite of
technologies, most notably its ability to detect and avoid interference. It also handles frequency coordination through its Wireless Workbench® software and the AXT600 Spectrum Manager.

Stagetec’s NEXUS STAR is a versatile digital audio network and routing system for controlling audio sources and distributing them. For these reasons, it was the choice for installation at The STAR PAC. Full redundancy for show performance is a critical design that Artec Consultants had implemented in this venue for a broadcast quality audio distributed for live, recording, streaming and archiving purpose.

The system effectively accommodates up to 16 boards each with 256 inputs and 256 outputs. This allows for routing a maximum of 4,096 inputs to 4,096 outputs, resulting in more than 16 million cross points. If more I/O resources are required, multiple NEXUS STAR units can be cascaded. Any input can be freely routed to any output, so point-to-point lines as well as point-to-multipoint sets can be created.

Leading the way in digital communication systems technology, Riedel sophisticated intercom, fiber, audio and radio technology was chosen for The Star PAC. The digital quality communication system enabled the entire facility wide network from the main theatre to other outdoor venues amphitheater, function hall, overflow rooms, studios and all recording suites.
