As part of Singapore’s SG60 celebrations, the National Museum of Singapore revamped one of its permanent galleries, the Glass Rotunda.

Visitors begin at the entrance where a 6 m ×1 m LED videowall presents a cinematic overture that kickstarts the onboarding experience.

The brief: to present Singapore’s 700-year history – with a focus on the sea – through an immersive and interactive multimedia production that connects emotionally with audiences across generations. From the outset, E&E (the integrator) was embedded into design conversations alongside content creators (GSM Project) and builders (Kin Productions), enabling proactive decisions about system architecture, spatial constraints, and narrative flows.

They proceed under a 2.5 m spherical LED globe which animates Singapore’s trade routes —mirrored reflectors below amplify immersion. The spiral ramp descends chronologically backwards through time, with projections guiding the visitor through the historical eras.

The path leads into a 360° “drum” arena where projections wrap around the space and an LED floor reacts to visitors’ movement. At various waypoints, interactive stations respond to the wristband, triggering animations, lighting cues, or hidden content.

As visitors near the end, they tap their wristbands on a 20 m ×3 m LED wall to unlock a bespoke multimedia finale.

They then “release” their digital companion into a virtual well, tying personal experience to the thematic thread of reciprocity with nature.
